KELT FUTSAL CHALLENGE

Last Sunday, on May 31st 2009, we held KELT FUTSAL CHALLENGE at OLE OLE indoor stadium (just across the river from KELT Darmokali). KELT Futsal challenge is an event that we hold every term and it's always been popular with both students and teachers. There were 10 teams participating from all KELT branches including a teachers team! They were Simon H and Tim (Kelt Graha), Dan K (Kelt Jemursari), Peter M (Kelt Jawa), Wardana and Andy (Kelt Darmokali) . The 10 student teams were divided into 2 groups.

Here's how the competition works: the team with the highest score in each group goes to the final. This time, the finalists were Division 13 from group A and Gookil from group B. The champion was Division 13 and the runner-upwas Gookil. To all winners we gave away trophies and Kelt Rugby Balls. The game was so fun and everyone was excited. If you had missed out on this particular competition for some reason, don't worry. You can check out the pictures here or you can participate in the next Futsal Challenge. Keep your eyes peeled for the announcement or you can always check in with out friendly receptionists.

CONGRATULATION YOUNG LEARNERS !!!

Congratulation to our young learners. We held Young Learners Examination on 28 March 2009.
What is Young Learners Examination (YLE) ? Young Learners Examination (YLE) is a reliable and consistent measure of how well your child is doing in the skills of listening, speaking and reading and writing. Tests are designed to make learning fun and children are encouraged by working towards certificates and earning the 'shields' that record their progress.

There are three levels for children to work through, Starters (orange level students), Movers (red level students) and Flyers (blue level students), with Starters being the first, aimed at young children with very basic skills. Fiona got Flyers certificate, sheila and david got Movers certificates. Once again congratulation to all of you and keep up your English.

If you want to know more about YLE please come to KELT at Darmokali 34 or you can call us at 031-566-1308

BOLT FILM CLUB and FUN GAMES

Did you come to our Film Club and Fun Games last Sunday on May 17, 2009? We were playing BOLT, an animated movie about a very cute dog. BOLT is the name of the main character: a small white dog who, having spent his entire life on the set of a television series, thinks that he has super powers. When he believes that his mistress, Penny, has been kidnapped, he sets out on a cross-country journey to "rescue" her. It is a great computer-animated comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, and is the 48th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animation Studios canon.
We also had fun games such as hoop loop, dart game, bounce ball, mini golf, giant crossword and treasure hunt. We gave away a lot of prizes such as little teddy bear, mini pen, block note, and rugby ball.

ZERO WASTE CAMPAIGN AT TAMAN BUNGKUL

Last Sunday, we held a campaign about Zero Waste at Taman Bungkul. KELT teachers and staff did the campaign by gave away KELT Zero Waste bags to every person who brought plastic bags, exchanged the bags, and gave explanation to them about the bad effects of using plastic bag. Based on an article, plastic waste is more dangerous than global warming. Plastic is not biodegradable which means it can not be destroyed. Can you imagine if our world full of plastic waste?

So, if you really concern about your environment, from now on PLEASE STOP USING PLASTIC BAG!!!!!

ZERO WASTE

This term, KELT is proud to be part of the Zero Waste campaign. Zero Waste is a movement that raises awareness for the alarmingly excessive amount of waste we produce. We may not realize it, but not all the garbage that we throw away can be safely buried in a landfill or even worse, incinerated. All the waste we have "contributed" to the environment and continually do, without us knowing, has further damaged the environment. Global warming, a very real phenomenon happening all around us, is a direct effect of our behavior.

KELT gave away bags in the first week of the term to all the students to show our support for Zero Waste. These bags, while may not look like much, are made out of recycled goods (in this case, car tyres) and are quite handy. You can reuse them, unlike with plastic bags that you get in grocery stores. Plastic bags are nonbiodegradable, meaning they won't compost into the ground even after thousands of years and continue to contaminate the earth with all their chemicals. They are also not renewable. Please stop using plastic bags. It's the least you can do for the environment.

There are plenty of other things you can do to help your environment, even in small ways. If you're interested, check out these websites:
